Heritage Day will be held on Saturday July 19 from 9:00 to 5:00 and will be kicked off by an outdoor church service followed by a BBQ lunch. Ongoing musical entertainment and various activities for young and old will form a part of this day. Various vendors will be on site.
Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell, visits the Coldwater Canadiana Heritage Museum
On Sunday, July 19th, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will join the celebrations of the Coldwater Canadiana’s 50th Anniversary at this year’s annual Heritage Day. Fifty years ago, on July 19th, 1965, the Canadiana officially became a Museum. Her Honour will be accompanied by the OPP Commissioner’s Own Pipes and Drum Band and Ceremonial Unit.
The Coldwater Canadiana Museum, not only celebrates 50 years as a Museum but it is also the Woodrow Homestead’s 175thAnniversary. The original cabin built in 1840 remains today on the same location and is part of the enlarged house constructed in the 1860’s. Since 1965, the Museum has celebrated this special day, beginning with an interdenominational church service at10:45 am, followed by a barbecue lunch and entertainment. This year’s event will include the Lieutenant Governor, assisting with dedications and the celebration of the Anniversary.
The Honourable, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, became Ontario’s 29th Lieutenant Governor during a ceremony at the Ontario Legislative Building on September 23, 2014. During this year’s Heritage Day celebrations, Her Honour will bring greetings, assist in dedications and also the presentation of a special award to the Canadiana.
